Feed our Community     
13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK and this number is increasing by the day. *Source: government indices of deprivation. 
Every day people across the UK will struggle to feed themselves and their families.  Redundancy, illness, benefits delay, domestic violence, debt, family breakdown and paying for the additional costs of heating during winter are just some of the reasons why people go hungry.  Often those worst affected face decisions between eating and paying the rent.  Some are so desperate that they consider stealing to feed their children.
In 2013-14 food aid/banks fed 913,138 people nationwide. Of those helped, 330,205 were children (typically one third)
A recent survey of food banks/aid programmes showed that:

  • 100% of recipients would have skipped meals without the food aid
  • 69% would have experienced increased depression
  • 38% would have experienced strain on family relationships   
  • 15% would have committed a crime [to obtain food]
  • 1 in every 5 mums regularly skip meals to feed their children.
  • Less than five per cent of food bank clients are homeless, many are working families.

From October 2014 the government put a 5p charge on all carrier bags; they suggested a percentage of this should be donated to charity. The Well Foundation partners with over 200 businesses that keep our charity tubs in their retail outlets and have established many great partnerships already.
We aim to further expand on these relationships with the Feed our Community programme which we launched in Dec 2014. The proposal is that businesses donate % of their carrier bag sales and we purchase the items with the proceeds and send it over to local Food banks/organizations keeping the money in your community.  Customers and businesses alike will benefit working towards eradicating poverty in your locality. Sharing a common goal and care.
Typical food aid items generally consist of non perishable fit for purpose foodstuffs.
